Why This Is Happening
Most of these low-cost mattresses are imported by companies overseas, often under multiple brand names. If one model fails, chances are others from the same company would too. Yet many of these models are still being sold today.
To make matters worse, when recalls do happen, the “solution” is usually just sending consumers a free fabric cover to put over the mattress. Most people never request it — and even fewer keep it on for the full life of the bed. That means thousands of highly flammable mattresses remain in homes across the country.
