The comfort system included approximately one inch of memory foam.
Memory foam itself isn’t necessarily good or bad. Quality, density, formulation, thickness, and how the foam works with the layers underneath it all matter.
In this mattress, however, the memory-foam layer appeared relatively light-grade and thin.
Why does that matter?
The upper layers of a mattress have a major influence on how your body interacts with the sleep surface. A well-designed comfort system should work with the support system underneath it to provide cushioning, pressure distribution, and appropriate support.
Simply seeing the words “memory foam” on a product description doesn’t tell you enough.

2. Roughly Two Inches of Polyurethane Foam
Underneath the memory foam, we found approximately two inches of polyurethane foam.
Again, polyurethane foam is not automatically a problem. It is used throughout the bedding industry and can be manufactured in different grades and specifications.
The issue is what you’re getting for your money.
In this particular mattress, the material appeared relatively light-grade compared with the more substantial components we prefer to see when evaluating mattresses for long-term use.

Two mattresses can both be described as “foam mattresses” while being dramatically different inside.
Thickness matters.
Density matters.

The Biggest Concern Was the Core
The biggest surprise wasn’t the top inch of memory foam or the polyurethane layer.
It was the support core.
After opening the mattress, we were able to physically inspect and compress the core foam. It was remarkably easy to compress.
